Refarming 700MHz

Information on multiplex frequency refarming
and planned switchover to the new broadcasting standard DVB-T2 / HEVC.

Pursuant to the European Commission’s decision, a part of the frequency range currently used for terrestrial television will be allocated to the development of 5G mobile telephony. This makes it necessary to free up the 700MHz band and reorganise terrestrial television multiplexes in a process referred to as the frequency “refarming”.

Frequently asked questions

  • What do the changes at this stage involve?

The changes will affect Białogard and Koszalin. The signal will be transferred from channel 45 (666MHz) to 21 (474MHz) for MUX 1 and from channel 40 (626MHz) to 28 (530MHz) for MUX-4. Some receivers may require specifying the frequency during manual scanning.

  • When will the change take place?

The switchover will take place on the night from 29 to 30 March 2020 (Sunday to Monday) between 2400 hrs and 0500 hrs.

  • How should I prepare for the changes?

The change of broadcasting frequencies will require re-programming the TV set if it fails to find the channels itself. New TV sets periodically check for changes and update their channel lists, so most viewers are unlikely to notice the change.

  • What TV channels are available on MUX-1?

Multiplex 1 includes the following programmes: TVP ABC, EskaTV, TTV, Polo TV, ATM Rozrywka, TV Trwam, StopklatkaTV, FokusTV.

  • What TV channels are available on MUX-4?

MUX-4 is Cyfrowy Polsat’s mobile television, a paid service available through dedicated receivers. Detailed information can be found on the Cyfrowy Polsat website.

  • What towns in Zachodniopomorskie Province will be affected by the change at Stage 1?

The MUX-1 broadcasting range of the RTCN Białogard / Sławoborze facility covers the following municipalities: Barwice, Będzino, Białogard, Biesiekierz, Bobolice, Brojce, Brzeźno, Czaplinek, Dobra, Drawsko – Pomorskie, Dygowo, Golczewo, Gościno, Gryfice, Grzmiąca, Ińsko, Kamień Pomorski, Karlino, Karnice, Kołobrzeg, Koszalin, Łobez, Manowo, Maszewo, Mielno, Nowogard, Ostrowice, Płoty, Połczyn-Zdrój, Przybiernów, Rąbino, Radowo Małe, Resko, Rewal, Ryman, Siemył, Sławoborze, Świdwin, Świerzno, Świeszyno, Trzebiatów, Tychowo, Ustronie Morskie, Węgorzyno, Złocieniec.

  • What is the purpose of the changes?

The coming changes mean transferring terrestrial television multiplexes from the 694 -790 MHz frequency band to a lower of 470 – 694 MHz band due to the requirement for EU Member States to free up the 700 MHz band for mobile operators (5G services) and also due to the switchover to DVB-T2/HEVC broadcasting scheduled to take place in 2022. The changes are compliant with the Ordinance of the President of the Office of Electronic Communications of 17 January 2020 on the frequency utilisation plan for the 470-790 MHz band.

  • How can I tune my TV set to the new frequencies?

Most TV sets should tune in automatically. The new channels can also be easily found manually. Enter your TV set menu: select the Installation option and then Auto Tune. Wait a while for the tuning to complete and the channels should appear on your TV set’s channel list.

  • I tuned my TV set but cannot receive the channels. What do I have to do?

Check the connections and ensure that they are correctly fixed. Alternatively, please check that all the plugs and connectors are firmly crimped at cable ends.

  • What direction should I set my antenna in?

The changes will not make it necessary to reset the receiver antenna direction.

  • What is the Installer’s telephone number?

We recommend finding antenna installation service providers in your immediate neighbourhood or consult a TV&Radio equipment retailer.
